The Queer Museum & Library Network will begin our strategic planning phase in April 2026, and we'll need some help getting started!

We are seeking passionate individuals to join our Founding Steering Committee, a group that will set the course for the future of the organization.

Now recruiting for the QMLN Founding Steering Committee

Responsibilities

Each Committee member will:

  • Participate in regularly occurring virtual committee meetings

  • Review core documents and give input

  • Perform outreach on behalf of the organization

  • Work on projects related to area(s) of expertise and interest (see list below)

What is the Founding Steering Committee?

The Founding Steering Committee is a volunteer-based group who will collectively:

  • Make key decisions on governance structures and processes

  • Write core documents, including mission, vision, and objectives

  • Outline priorities and set milestone goals.

Time Commitment

  • April 2026 - April 2027

  • 8 to 12 hours per month

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience working in or with organizations in one or more of the following fields:

    • Museums, libraries, archives, etc. *;

    • LGBTQ+ history, culture, services, advocacy, etc.;

    • Workers rights and wellness, identity-based ERGs, etc.

  • Expertise and interest in one or more focus areas (see section below)

* Includes any institutions or programs of educational or cultural engagement, such as zoos, aquariums, historic houses, monuments, galleries, pop-up exhibits, walking tours, or web-based archives.

  • Administration

    • Scheduling meetings, compiling agendas and notes

    • Sending updates and reminders

Focus Areas

Each Committee member will specialize in one or more focus areas based on interest and expertise:

  • Development

    • Outlining fundraising strategies

    • Researching grants and other funding sources

  • Finance

    • Drafting budgets

    • Keeping track of income and spending

  • Communications

    • Outlining communications strategies

    • Managing social media posts and email newsletter

  • IT (Information Technology)

    • Managing software accounts, permissions, and trainings

    • Outlining software workflows and integrations

  • Outreach

    • Researching and prioritizing contacts for outreach

    • Keeping track of prospect assignments and progress

Specific tasks listed are subject to change.

  • DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, & Inclusion)

    • Ensuring incorporation of DEAI principles and practices into all facets of organizational operations

  • Governance

    • Outlining Board structure and processes

    • Drafting bylaws and other core documents

Please note that Founding Steering Committee members are not compensated financially.

  • The application includes written answers to questions and either resume upload, written list of experience, or link to online resume. (No cover letter is required).

  • All applications will be reviewed by humans, and every application will receive a response.

  • If we feel that your experience matches the Committee's needs, we will ask to meet with you for one 30-minute video interview.

  • The Committee will begin meeting in early April 2026.
